Pulkovo I Airport in St. Petersburg, Russia

The Pulkovo I Domestic Flights Ariport is located 17 km southward of the center of St. Petersburg and operates flights within Russia and selected destinations in the former Soviet republics. The former Intourist right-hand wing of the airport is now reserved for passengers departing and arriving by the local air career Pulkovo Airlines. If you fly by other air companies - including Aeroflot - you will need to use the airport's central lobby accessible via Gates # 1 and #2.

The airport has several cafes and a Soviet-style restaurant located in the second level of the main building, and a better-quality Irish pub is located in the right-hand wing of the airport. Parking places are scarce. If you plan to leave the city for a few days and do not feel like taking taxis, you can leave your car at a parking lot just opposite the building of the airport. Advance reservations are required and you can reserve your place by calling . Current price - 100 rubles (about $3.50) per day.

Getting from Pulkovo I Airport to the city.

Bus route 39 - it stops near the Gates #1 in the lower level of the airport. Buses run from 6:30am till 12:00pm with 15-20 minutes interval. There are several stops along the Pulkovo Highway ("Pulkovskoe Shosse"), one in the Victory Square opposite the Pulkovskaya Hotel ("Gostinitsa Pulkovskaja"), and the next near Moskovskaya Metro station from where it will take you about 20 minutes to get to Nevsky Prospect by metro. Current bus fare is 7 rubles (about 25 cents).

Express buses K-39/ K-39A - provide a much faster connection to the city with some buses commuting only between Moskovskaya Metro station and the airport and others taking you all way to different parts of the city. Current fare is 15 - 25 rubles, most drivers will charge you a flat 15 rubles fee (about 50 cents) for getting to Moskovskaya Metro station.

Taxi - the most expensive yet available round-the-clock mode of transportation which can be very costly if you arrive late at night. In the day time expect to pay anywhere from 400 to 600 rubles ($14 - $22) for a ride to Moskovskaya Metro station, and other destinations in the city may cost you up to 1500 rubles (about $55). If you arrive very late at night prices will skyrocket and you will be better off either having your hotel or tour operator send a car to meet you at the airport. As in many other countries, proficiency in the local language can help reduce the price.
